I'm prepared to believe I have remembered badly for the "pre-Bob" period of his Warks career, clearly he had been given every opportunity, but I am fairly certain when him and Liam Norwell arrived it was Norwell that things were really expected of and that Miles was a 'buy one get one half-price' sort of addition. Either way, I think we're all united in the fact a move probably will work well for him, he's put in the effort and we wish him well. So the important stuff. I also think we agree that some of the first-team and development coaching could be improved just a scootch.

I don't go with the view that Miles was only ever seen as a back-up/support bowler. At the time of his signing, he was thought of as one of the most promising young pace bowlers in the country. He made his debut at age 16 and was described by Gloucestershire coach Mark Alleyne as "a precocious talent." For Gloucestershire, he took 255 wickets in 68 first-class matches at an average of 26.68.
Admittedly, that was in the second division; but the potential was clearly there.
So I think that this is another instance where the Bears bowling coaches haven't done a great job in bringing on a young bowler.

I would say that Norwell and Miles were much of a muchness for Gloucestershire - Miles 255 wickets at 26.88, Norwell 248 at 26.97.
There were always doubts about Norwell's fitness/resilience. Just after he joined the Bears, I spoke to one of the Gloucestershire coaches and explained that Liam was currently injured but would be back soon. His reply to me was: "Don't hold your breath."

George Dobell in The Cricketer says:
"At the time he moved to Warwickshire - a move which coincided with Liam Norwell's move in the same direction - Miles was seen as a potential England prospect."
Maybe that's stretching things a bit.
And in conclusion, I agree that we all wish Craig well in this third phase of his career.

When on song, he was really good and that bowling attack on the day we won the CC in 2021 of Woakes, Norwell, Miles, Bresnan and Briggs were superb and his spell either side of tea on the last day was crucial.

Craig could well be playing his last game for us today, in the Seconds T20 Friendly against the South Asian XI, though I guess he might have a last, farewell, appearance in the final 2nds Championship match against Notts, starting on the 8th.

Whilst not 'wowing' in his time with us, there is no doubt, he always gave of his best and was a valuable member of the squad. Can't fault him for effort and dedication to the cause. It's true he never fulfilled the potential he had when moving from Gloucestershire; perhaps Gerry is right, our bowling Coaches may well have let him down a bit.

Yeah, I guess just as backup, if one of the seamers gets an injury or niggle. In that case, his batting would probably put him ahead of OHD.

I think his last match for us, will be in the final 2nds Championship game with Notts, starting on Monday.
