This is obviously a bigger match for Notts than it is for Warwickshire.
In order to be sure of the Championship title, Notts need to score 11 points. So if the match is drawn, they would need at least three bonus points. They would therefore need to score over 350, or bowl Warwickshire) out inside 110 overs.
If they do this, it doesn't matter if Surrey win and get maximum bonus points.
It is no doubt going to be a series of interesting games but the weather might have a say, it might just need 1 day of rain to mess/help certain sides.
With third place to play for (and prize money, if I remember correctly?) we should be well up for this one. Somerset have been deducted 4 points for a poor pitch in July so that brings them a bit closer to us in the table.
Interesting last game, especially what's at stake for Nottinghamshire. I hope we'll see captain Bethell in this game? He's barely featured at all for us this season. Strange that most other counties have had their England players featuring for them in between International games?
In a logical world you'd assume if Jacob played he's being lined up for an Ashes squad place. Very hard to decipher England's plans with him though. Probably doesn't play but still travels.

I would love to see Notts break Surrey's stranglehold but not at our expense, and it would be great to nab an away win.
I'm not sure why Bethell would make the team, other players like Malik have have played well enough this season to keep their place,. Perhaps that just me though!
No, I agree, there is no point now and any talk of an Ashes selection is irrelevant and playing one CC at the end of the season should not have any bearing on a selection for this particular tour. I am not sure how he would be on a tour of Australia seeing as those bastards lay into everyone as soon as they step off the plane, never letting up and getting in your face at every opportunity.
If England want Bethell to prepare for his role in the Ashes, perhaps we should make him 12th man?
I think the decision has already been made. As you say, one CC game would have no bearing on judging his ability to play red ball against Aussie. The more likely scenarios as I see it either i) England want to use him at red ball, probably as back up for Pope and Stokes, and uses this game as prep. Or ii) England want him for white ball only for the next [x] time and he doesn't play versus Notts.
What England actually do (and this is pretty much entirely their decision, they could force him into our side if they wanted) doesn't seem to ever match my logical read of the situation however, who knows what will actually happen. As I say up the feed, doesn't play v Notts and does the Ashes tour is distinctly possible.

Not much really about the match or the team, mainly Alex Davies talking about Kai Smith. The gist, in relation to his keeping, is that he's been rubbish but he may get better.

I agree. I would also point out that Kai has a higher batting average that Davies in the CC this season, but that would be churlish.
