Ah I see, I thought you were bagging Kai earlier. Agree with your point though, his comments were a bit patronising and misplaced I thought.

Anyhow, a reasonable first session this morning after the early wicket. Having said that, still advantage Notts in the title chase, dreadful start by Surrey.

If Kai isn't given time in the team, how is he going to improve his keeping? He should be the first choice keeper in all forms of the game.

I agree. I would also point out that Kai has a higher batting average that Davies in the CC this season, but that would be churlish.

Almost as churlish as Alex Davies' comments about Kai's keeping.

Gutted for Mousley :(

Might do us a favour losing that last wicket and bowling at 1030 tomorrow.

If we can deny Notts two batting points then it could get interesting.

I'm a bit disappointed with the score, especially with so many players getting starts and the big guns in the tail (Booth and Bamber) not firing. Therefore it looks like we will be trying to salvage a draw again, however I don't think Notts would be pushing very hard for the win- why would they? -so they might just bat and bat.

Hopefully I am wrong and they will be 5 down at lunch!

Irrespective of the conditions (they were tough to be fair) you can't be 240/5 with half hour to go in the day and end up getting bundled out for 256 in 20mins, new ball or not. Did all the hard work, Yates and Young initially, then Barnard and Mousley (deserved a ton), then the tail come in and bat like that. Infuriating!

Jack Haynes didn't like that decision then...

Congratulations to Notts. Great innings by Hameed, proper captains innings.

Yes, good team. They only won 2 games last season, quite the turnaround. Feel like Hameed always scores big runs against us.

Looks like they are now hammering home their advantage.

Really terrible last 2 hours. Looks like Sussex may pip us to 4th if they win and we lose.

That last little mini session was all a bit predictable. Notts rampant.

Well that’s the batting performance we know. 7-3

In the spirit of Rob Key!

Kai now has a championship batting average above both of our openers, perhaps the wrong man was left out of the side?

Problem is Kai isn't an opener, the main problem is that we have no other options to open, but a lot of middle order batsmen.

Very good point, EB. Perhaps one or two of the aspiring middle order batters could reinvent themselves as openers - it’s happened before, perhaps they just need some encouragement.

I don't understand why Will Young didn't open in this game and Davies, if he must keep, not drop down to 5/6.

we have lost 8 wickets for our last 21 runs in the game

At least I will be out of my misery today - roll on April!

Young is an opener, Mousley and Malik have opened at 2nd team Level, Bethel has opened in International cricket (U19), I think Kai may have too when he played for UAE.

Also, were we not told when Davies originally signed his hands had long term injuries that prevented him keeping in red ball games?

Davies definitely needs to stop doing this ridiculous opening, keeping and captaining malarkey. Westwood should be stepping in to say no, suggests he's a weak coach.

This is what Alex Davies and Glen Chapple fell out over apparently. England wanted to call up AD to it's white ball squads as keeper/batter in 2021, GC informed Eng that AD's fingers were knackered and he couldn't keep. AD disagreed. John Simpson got the call up instead. AD signed with us for 2022.
