Absolutely no need for us to push the score along. 350 in 110 overs is very manageable and it doesn't look like a pitch where there is 'a ball with your name on it'.

If it's a 3 way tie it might go all the way down to most wickets taken as wins + losses are equal and I guess they ignore head to head in that scenario?

I'm thinking 207 might be a magic number. Currently on 206 so we need that first batting point to get to 207. Notts would then be 19 behind us and to draw level will need 3 bonus points and win. Level with us is no good for Notts as we have the head to head unless Somerset also finish level with us?

To overhaul us if we ended on 207 Notts would need 4 bonus points and win

You’ll be lucky with at that on this pitch. It’s very slow and hard to score with long boundaries. We just need to build a lead. Unfortunate we’ll have to start at 1030 tomorrow.

If it's a 3 way tie, and if they do use 3 way head to head to determine the championship, they'd have to half our points in our 2 games versus Notts as we only played Somerset once and then half Somerset's points in their games with Notts if they played each other twice

In that situation I think we'd win as we won 13-12 (26-24) overall in the 2 matches combined against Notts and we won 13-11 in our solitary match against Somerset at Taunton

In terms of our own game, big first hour to navigate tomorrow before we focus on piling on as many as we can on a pitch which appears to be deteriorating already. Their first and second change bowlers have not looked anywhere near as threatening as Green and Holland.

Somerset don't look like a team that think they can win. They even gave an over to Tom Kohler-Cadmore who has played almost 450 games in all formats without ever (until today) bowling a ball in anger.

Would have been so much better without Jani playing such a ridiculous shot. Does he not realise how important this game is and when you appear to be in control, you don't go and fox it up and give the opposition a sniff. Only 6 w3ickets left and I would love us to bat for another 45-50 overs and if Sam keeps his usual cool persona, it's possible. With Somerset needing more wickets in 14 overs, they could be short but by the looks of it, us getting a 6 bonus-points draw is out of the question seeing as 14 wickets have fallen here in just the first day. We need a decent lead unless Leicestershire bat like that again and I certainly don't want to see us chasing anything over 160 and start to get jittery. Pitch looks fine, just good bowling and a few giving their wickets away. I can understand them batting and if they only lost 1 in the first hour then it might have been a great decision. We need a wagging tail tomorrow.

By my reckoning if we hit 250, then that bonus point should see off the draw certainties at Somerset, and leave Notts too much to do and of course put leics under immense pressure.

Agree, it's a good position to be in. I have a feeling in my waters that the batting point (I think we can only realistically get one) is important but I don't know why.

We can see that Somerset are behind and need to get five wickets in 14 overs to get their full load of bowling BPs. Newish ball and an early start though ... who knows. If Surrey do get 125 more runs though, I think Somerset are out of the game anyhow. Terry's point about Somerset not feeling they can win is interesting, from looking at the scorecard I concur.

Notts seem to have had another collapse and they seem out of it for now, like us 1 batting BP seems the limit they can get and that's not enough for them.

Notts aren't out of it at all. If they get 1 batting point, bowl Yorkshire out and win their game that gets them to 208. We lead currently sat on 206. If we get to 300 that'll put us on 208 and Notts cannot then overtake us. They can pull up level but we'd stay above them on head to head

Could do with Olly Stone missing a straight one first thing tomorrow and then 207 is the magic number
