Very good signing. I still feel we need another batsman.

Suggestion that he won't be available for the first game and may well have further availability issues as the season goes on.

Depends if he ends up in their t20 squad as if he does that pretty much rules out April to June. In which case we need to sign another overseas.

The timing of this news so close to the start of the new season is disappointing.

Called up to the Pakistan squad ahead of their tour of Ireland and England later this month.

Away from us for 3 CC games (from 10 May) and at least one T20.

This is hopeless! How can he get into any rhythm with the Bears?

Again! He barely played for them (at least initially) last time he was called up as well.

No great shock, surprised it didn't happen earlier. That is Pakistan cricket for you, totally disorganised, like the year they chose 31 different opening partnerships in all formats of cricket and then wondered why their openers could never gel.

The ever growing club of Warwickshire players who are supposedly playing for someone else but aren’t actually playing.
Woakes is of course president of this club.

So, bowler situation:
Woakes, unavailable at the IPL and not being selected.
Hasan Ali: unavailable and not being selected by Pakistan.
Norwell: Injured pectoral muscle and out for several weeks.
Rushworth: Injured calf and out for several weeks.
Michael Booth: (remember him?) Injured and out for several weeks
Craig Miles: Injured, not sure at length of absence?
Have I missed anyone??

No, don't think so !

It is a terrible state of affairs. I know people get injured and I'm sure the Physio's are doing their best to get everyone back and I know WE don't appear to be able to recall anyone contracted elsewhere (though other Counties seem to manage it !), but for goodness sake, surely the Club can be a lot more honest in their reporting of length of absence.

IF Norwell has bigger injury problems than his pecs, or Rushworth more than a calf strain - tell us straight - its sad, but we can take it. Tell us what's happening with Booth (injury / contract issues). Tell us when Woakesy will be back and able to play. Tell us (not immediately, obviously) how bad Miles' injury is and when Physio's EXPECT a return.

It's all to do with transparency and honesty to supporters.

Well, Hassan did get a game today but with figures of 3-0-42-0, perhaps he'll be back in our ranks fairly soon!

Their next game is against England on the 22nd. If he’s in their squad for that, will he be available for the Essex game?

It is possible that Norwell's problem is mental as well as physical. Perhaps he doesn't trust his body any more to carry out the demands of a fast bowler. Either way, this situation can't go on.
Woakes really needs to play some competitive cricket rather than be a highly paid net bowler.

As someone slightly older than Norwell with disc problems and Sciatica...I can't imagine how Norwell could come back and bowl game after game.

I don't have the level of support Norwell has however, disc issues are very delicate and must be incredibly tough for a bowler
