Cain's interview with the Mail didn't throw up too many surprises, but there was one thing that stood out. We're leaving it late to sign a second Overseas player. I guess a batsman - possibly one who might offer a backup spin option?

Will Porterfield has just gone to Lancashire as a Coach. Another ex-Bear finding a career away from Edgbaston.

I see Derbyshire have appointed Ben Smith as Batting Coach, in place of Belly. In their announcement, they wish Ian all the best, "in the next stage of his Coaching career". Could that be back at Edgbaston, in place of Frost? If so, it has been a long time, coming.

Davies didn't play for Southern Brave again last night, so as that's 2 matches out and Brave don't play on Monday, he could be available for us in the Gloucester game. It's up to Brave if they want to release him though.

13 man squad:-
Rhodes
Hassan
Barnard
Benjamin
Briggs
Henry Brookes
Burgess
Davies
Hain
OHD
Mousley
Rushworth
Yates

I suppose Benjamin and Brookes will be left out?
Good, Burgess is back, even if its just for red ball.

New Zealand's Chief Selector and ex-Chief Exec of Wellington. A decent Medium Pacer for NZ, if I recall?

Of course, Jeets was a 'Wellington man', I wouldn't be surprised if that connection, was the 'door in'?

Maxwell signed as the second Overseas player for the T20. A great signing.

Pretty much a full strength team (of 12) for Essex:-

Yates, Mousley, Burgess (Keeper), Benjamin, Lamb, Ethan Brookes, Henry Brookes, Lintott (Captain !), Miles, OHD, Johal & Shaikh.

Obviously a batting and a bowling XI - with Shaikh in for batting and (probably) Johal for bowling.

Essex won the toss and chose to bat.

Only 3 front line bowlers today, plus the usual backups - Rhodes, Ethan B and Yates (oh and Lamb, I guess). Another crazy selection. Maddy in for Burgess (and keeping wicket) - Kai Smith again just in as a batsman.

Durham won the toss and put us in.

Woakes is back today, for the 2nds. Batting at 4.

Mousley, Shaikh, Ethan Brookes, Woakes, Lintott (Captain), Amir Khan, Maddy, Yusuf Khalil, Booth, Garrett and Johal.

A squad of 13, but Yates is not there - presumably a return to the 2nds tomorrow, to sort himself out.

McAndrew back, but Hain, Briggs and Norwell are out injured, so it will be a very interesting team selection. Dan M in as front line spinner?!

12 man (batting & bowling) team:-
Shaikh
Amir Khan
Ethan Brookes
Hose
Bethell (Captain)
Benjamin (Keeper)
Roshan Balaji
Lintott
Johal
Tommy Rex
Garnett
Jordan Bulpitt

Norwell is first seam bowling reserve in the England Test team for the West Indies. With Robinson's injury, Mahmood is now in the 12 man squad for the First Test, but our Liam is on standby, in case of other injuries on the Tour.

5 candidates on the short list for Bowling Coach. Allan Donald and Donovan Miller at the top of the list, along with Dale Steyn, Mo Sheikh and Shaun Tait. Interviews have been held and a final announcement is expected in the next day or two.

JT has had a promotion at Edgbaston - from Batting Consultant to Assistant Coach. He goes in as No 2 to MR and will be responsible for more than just batting work. Frosty (for the moment ?!) stays as official Batting Coach.

Farb has turned down Sri Lanka to stay at Edgbaston - for this season at least.

https://www.thecricketer.com/Topics/countycricket/graeme_welch_to_move_warwickshire_hampshire_bowling_coach.html

A very sad bit of news this morning. Graeme Welch has left Edgbaston (again !), to go to Hampshire. I'm really surprised, he seemed such a key member of the Coching staff - and was probably the best Coach we've had in many a year - so many WCCC bowlers owe a future to him. I don't know if its down to money, or a feeling that he'd be better off at Hampshire. I guess we'll find out more soon. I hope we've got a good replacement lined up.

If we were lose a Coach, I fully expected it to be our Batting Coach. I do think Frostie has had his day in that job and we seriously need new ideas and skills in that role ?

Pollock opening in his last game for us. Michael Booth is in again, but Bradley Currie is playing for Gloucestershire!

Last Seconds game of the season, at Rockhampton.

We're batting first.

Same 13 man squad as Lancs:-

Rhodes, Benjamin, Bresnan, Briggs, Burgess, Hain, Holder, Johal, Lamb, Miles, Norwell, Sibley & Yates

I guess it will be the same 11 - ie no Bresnan or Johal ?
