Mark Robinson likes out grounds!
“I love playing at out grounds…these types of matches were far more common in my playing days. It helps you connect with communities, we’ll be close to the crowd, players can interact with them, and a crowd of 800 or so can feel like 10,000 as they’ll be on top of you!"
From the Glamorgan site re conditions at Neath:
TRAVEL - There is no public car parking available at the ground. There are independent carparks located throughout the town.
The closest car park to the ground is the NEATH MSCP located at Prince of Wales Dr, Neath SA11 3BY. NEATH TRAIN STATION is also just a 5-10 minute walk away from the ground.
SEATING - Seating for all our home fixtures is unallocated, so you can choose your view of the action! Glamorgan will provide a large amount of seating at the ground, however, you can bring your own seating should you wish.
FOOD AND DRINK - A number of catering options will be available at food units around the ground. There will also be bar facilities serving alcoholic and soft drinks. Food and drink will be provided in partnership with NEATH ROUNDTABLE.
PLEASE DRINK RESPONSIBLY - We will not admit those who are visibly drunk and we have breathalysers in place to check.
I like the last bit about being potentially breathalysed in order to get into the ground.
Graham Smith previews the match:

He's not exactly unbiased because his son is in the Glamorgan squad.
With the discussion of outgrounds, it will be interesting to see what everyone makes of Neath.
I guess we won't know if he was offered another contract and turned it down or whether he wasn't offered one.
I would have liked to have seen him given a few more chances. I'm not so sure that there have been too many other home grown young players who have been wrongly released and have gone on to succeed elsewhere, though I'm happy to be put right on that.
Excellent all round bowling performance.

When they say "Warwickshire last played Gloucestershire in List A cricket in August last year and were at the wrong end of an eight-wicket defeat," what they really should have said is that Gloucestershire were at the wrong end of a defeat because thanks to a Dom Sibley hundred, the Bears won by 8 wickets. It's either poor writing or wishful thinking.
I promise I won't do it again; but I watched a bit of the Hundred match tonight and Sam Hain scored a brilliant 63 off 39 balls for some team against some other team.

There’s also the question of whether the club exists solely to make a profit.
If there are any accountants on here, they have probably read this and fainted.
It's almost certainly right that the costs of staging a match at an outground would make it a poor option financially.
I guess that what you can't quantify is the benefit in the long term to the Club if, say, a young boy or girl goes along to a match at an outground because it's local to them, falls in love with cricket and with Warwickshire and supports the Club for the rest of their life. No accountant is going to be able to put that on their balance sheet.
My colleague Graham Smith has produced a comprehensive preview of prospects for the Metro Bank One Day Cup:

Any chance that the ECB might announce that they are cancelling The Hundred and playing another three Tests to decide the Ashes series?
i love outgrounds that have plenty of character and atmosphere - Cheltenham comes to mind. And if it's in an impressive setting, so much the better. I mourn the loss of Abergavenny as a Glamorgan outground. But it probably wasn't really suitable in terms of size,, in that a Birmingham born batter was able to hit 16 sixes in an innings there.
I'm not at all sure that there is a Warwickshire ground that meets all the criteria. Of course, Portland Road was lined up pre-Covid to host 50 over games but that seems to have gone by the board. And it is so close to Edgbaston that it can't really appeal to a different clientele.
There is no doubt that this year, Edgbaston has had to host too many games and the ground staff haven't been able to maintain the quality of pitches.
And congratulations to Chris Woakes - Player of the Series!
I was surprised that Mark Rpobinson put the defeat down, in large part, to the players being tired. Looking at the team that played, I can see that Davies, Yates, Mousley and Burgess have played through the T20 and Championship games (Burgess for Sussex in the T20); but the others have had plenty of time off - Hain through injury and the others through not being selected for all games.
OK, gone are the days when Jim Laker could take 19 wickets in a Test at Old Trafford and have to travel overnight back to the Oval to turn out for Surrey the next day. And I also respect that Mr, Robinson knows far more about the game than I do and is much closer to the players.
But.....
One international umpire (who maybe should remain anonymous) said of the hit wicket: " 9 down and a chance to go home early, out.
TV match, not out."

I saw and took part in a twitter discussion on it and that passage you quote, Gerry, was the crucial one. As interpret it TRJ was still wafting his bat around, overelaborately, when regaining normal position after his shot. So it is still his follow through and therefore he hadn't "completed any action in receiving the delivery". One thing we will probably never know now is if the ball was dead or not at this moment, ie hit the ground beyond the boundary. This is the subject of the next para in the rules, and neither camera has both in shot, understandably. Both umpires were watching the ball in flight. Personally I think moral out from the unnecessary, ostentatious even, bat waving after the shot ;-). But of course I am a Warks supporter.

Back to the match - there has apparently been quite a bit of discussion on at least one umpiring forum about the hit wicket decision against Toby Roland Jones. The consensus seems to be that he was wrongly given out because it is not out if the contact with the stumps occurs, as the Laws says, "after the striker has completed any action in receiving the delivery" . As I understand it, the only exceptions to this are if it happens when the striker is setting off for a run or is seeking to defend his wicket, neither of which seems to have been the case.
The suggestion is that both umpires were (understandably) following the flight of the ball and didn't see what happened and that, had there been DRS available, the decision would have been not out.
What do others (and especially our resident umpire Highveld) think?
