Yates fails again!

Finishes the season with an average of 18.62, which is totally unacceptable for a specialist batsman. Two good innings from 17 is never acceptable.

It says a lot that Henry Brookes was sent out ahead of Davies with the side needing quick runs.

It was good to see Rob Ytes show a lot of chracter and finish his season with a good innings, while it doesn't erase the many failures he's had this season, it does show he has the character, and ability to succeed.

Hopefully he has a good winter and comes back to start next season as one of our leading players.

We should be very greatful for the contribution Sam Hain has made this season, and indeed for the stupidity of the England selectors for not picking him for England.

He is lucky to have had so may chances this season, when his performances have not justified a place in the side.

Yes he did well today, but one good innings does not erase the repeated failures from his record.

The repeated failures by Yates and Davies have put additional pressure on the middle order and have been a key factor in the poor performances this year.

Hampshire elected to bowl.

Yates in to fail again, there is no logical reason to include him in the side.

I understand that the club hasn't yet appointed a replacement for Tom Rawlins, but as I pointed out when the post was advertised, they seem to be looking for someone who fits various PC quotas rather than having the ability to lead a media team at a professional sports club.

Yet again Yates, average 11.93 is selected.

Henry Brooks has scored more runs at a better average this season, from less innings!

Yadev has been recalled by the BCCI

Probably the last Div 1 game for the club until 2024, if not later.

What changes would people like to see from the team at Bristol?

I'd start by sugegsting that Lamb and Burgess return to the side, with the omission of Yates and Davies.

If Burgess is not available, I'd recall Chris Benjaming to keep wicket.

Not sure that any of Sidebottom, Garrett or Johal are good enough for first team cricket, so perhaps try to get someone in on a short term loan.

Time to update the out of contract list

Sibley (Surrey)
Stone (Notts)
Hose (Worcs)
Lamb (Siberia?) :-)
Sidebottom (?)
Garrett (?)
Furrer. (Trialed at Worcs)

Can you honestly say that Yates, Sidebottom or Davies actually made useful contributions?

Losing in 3 days is what happens when you play a motivated side with just 8 players.

Yadev should be facing a dissent charge for his reaction.

We need to stop trying to blame the umpires for the poor performance of the players.

Remember we are only seeing a long distance TV shot, not from a great angle. The umpire is their on the field with a different view, lus he's able to hear any contact, and judge if the contact was with a bat or a pad.

Interesting to see that, in less innings, Henry Brookes has scored more runs and has a better average than Yates.

Yadav should be facing a charge for serious dissent.

Another "Wonderful" innings from Yates.

IT would be interesting to know why Robinson/Farbrace continue to select a play whos performances so seriously damage teh teams position.

He is scoring more runs than Yates and Davies that were Farbrace/Robinson signings?

Last year Farbrace/Robinson gave multi year contracts to Yates, Davies, Johal, Benjamin & Lintot. so far none of them have done anything this year to show that giving them long contracts was the right decision.

Also, how can players perform consistantly when they are not given the opportunity to play. Bethell, Mousley and Benjamin have played a combined total of 10 Championship games less year, and have scored more runs than Yates.
The only young player given a chance to be consistant is Yates, who consistantly fails.

On this seasons performances, I'd rather have Ed Pollock than Yates with his average of 12, below 8 if his one fifty is dicarded.

It is understandable players, who have a short career, will want to move if a better opportunity is available. It is demoralising to know you can perform well, but players performing at an unacceptable poor level are allowed to continue underperforming in the team with no consequences.

It's possible that Hain and Rhodes are pshychlogially worn down from having to rebuild the innings everytime, and have retreated into their "shell" while batting.

It's a lot easier to play attacking shots when the top 3 have put a couple of hundred runs on the board.

Remember that Matt Lamb hat the best strike rate of our middle order players, another reason why his omission is illogical.

Perhaps Hain and Rhodes are having to bat defensively to try and rebuild the innings from the abysmal start that the early dismissals of Yates and Davies cause everytime?

The club issued a lot of three year contracts last season, none of them have looked to be good decisions so far.

Remember Ian Bell was 18 when he became a first team regular, Yates is now 23 so over four years older.

I think he did well last season, and was given a contract extention that, on reflection, was not deserved.

I don't think Bell or Hain were ever allowed a long run of games when they were consistantly underperforming so badly.

An average of 12 for a specialist batsman is never acceptable.
