No idea why Covid held it up, but the team has been announced, the toss has happened and play starts at 11.30. As expected, Bresnan and Johal left out. Lineup:-

Yates, Sibley, Benjamin, Hain, Rhodes, Lamb, Burgess, Briggs, Miles, Norwell & Holder.

We won the toss and chose to bowl.

Ah, it must have upset them, cos they're 74 for 8! 4 wickets for the Captain (again), 2 for Liam and 1 apiece for Miles & Holder (expensively).

It doesn't get much better than that. They edged everything and we caught everything, including the one we dropped.

They started a lot better than we have though. For 14 wickets (and counting) to fall within the first three hours of play suggests very difficult batting conditions.

They said on comms earlier that it wasn't a 74 for 8 (or whatever) pitch and they're right. The bowling has been pretty accurate, the fielding has been very good and some of the batting has been brainless. I don't think there are any demons in the pitch rendering it unplayable: it's just done enough.

Focus very much on Hampshire here, they batted terribly but have bowled incredibly well, only Benjamin's dismissal looked avoidable.

At least Burgess and Hain fought. Tea came at the wrong time for them both, they were in and would have probably been better off just stay in out there.

It is a real shame that after the good work from our bowlers that as usual the batsmen cannot capitalise. It’s an ongoing concern that has been the case for years.

Some of the players seem to be hitting a bad run of form just at the wrong time.

With exception of Hain and Burgess, (I'm exonerating Benjamin) the rest predictably caved in so poorly when they should've taken a grip on this contest. Rubbish batting as usual...!

Hain was a tad unlucky with his decision. There was a noise as it passed the bat but he didn't look happy. Burgess one of a trio out fishing at wide ones along with Benjamin trying to get on with it and Miles. All three will be disappointed to get out in that fashion. The others you'd have to say were got out by good bowling. Barker has run through much more seasoned top orders for yonks and I thought Abbas in particular was the standout bowler of the day tight accurate and persistently threatening. It just seemed to jar somewhat with the overhead balmy conditions you'd have been able to comprehend such a day had it been a misly April in Southampton

A strange day and I felt they bowled better than us. Hampshire gave too many wickets away with bad shots whereas I felt Abbas in particular was superb and gave us nothing. I would rather be in their position now but perhaps the pitch isn't as bad as the scores suggest and we might see more runs tomorrow.

Yesterday was my first day of CC cricket this season and what a day of cricket to witness.

Echo some of what was said above, tea came at the wrong time completely for Burgess and Hain - I said that as they went off. I did think Hain was out tbh from where I was so can't blame the umpire for giving that.

Hampshire threw some wickets away, which is slightly worrying in the sense that if they sort that out they could be in for a decent score. They're favourites for me.

Edit - we need to start scoring some batting bonus points.

If Chemar Holder could bowl we could have a chance here with Briggs twirling away at the other end

Going at 5 an over is not what is needed from him...
