Still no Norwell, so I would guess that it’ll be the same team as the Somerset game.

Somerset had actually lost their last seven County Championship matches.
My Deep Extra Cover colleague Harry Everett, who has been commentating on the live feed, obviously enjoyed the change of fortunes:

I played cricket with Harry while I was living in Exeter and know quite a few Somerset supporters through that team (including Annie Chave, I’m not sure if anyone follows her on twitter or subscribes to County Cricket Matters - I’d recommend doing both). One slight positive for me is that this defeat came against Somerset, rather than a team like Surrey or Essex!

Might Woakes be in contention for this one? He was apparently due to play in the Somerset game but had one or two niggles

It seems that McAndrew can bat, at least

It’s hard to tell from the live stream, and I only saw him bowl one over, but McAndrew did seem to be quicker than most or all of our other bowlers. Seemed similar to Norwell in terms of style. Would be interested to see what those at the ground thought though.

I would be surprised if McAndrew doesn’t play given the effort that has been made to get him over here.

McAndrew in for Brookes the only change for the next match if Norwell is fit?

I guess that Essex and Glamorgan might have applied for the visas earlier than we did? McAndrew was a relatively late signing for us.

Cricinfo are reporting that Lawrence picked up a hamstring injury at the end of the day, although it's not clear if this will affect his ability to bat in the second innings.

A nice start to the game to wake up to today!

He's so much better than when he joined us. I remember he would never get near our four day team initially but is now one of the first names on the teamsheet.

All matches from 1993 onwards were four days long, if that helps! Between 1988 and 1992 there was a mix of three day and four day matches.

The all time record is 214 set by Nick Knight and Alan Richardson in 2002, which will take some beating. They were pretty close to a record against Surrey but I don't think they quite got there, I think that was around 125-130 set in the 1920s!

In 2019 it was five counties:

Not sure if that has changed after the pandemic, though. You could try emailing tickets@edgbaston.com, they should be able to tell you.

I'll reserve judgement until after he's played for us, but I will say that it's hard these days to find an overseas player that is available for a good number of championship matches - we saw last season with Vihari and Malan (both international standard players) that if someone is only brought in for a few games that doesn't give enough time for them to get used to the conditions. Malan's only good score for us was in his last game as I recall?

Championship: Winners (seeing as no-one else has gone for that!)
T20: Finalists
RLC: 3rd, knocked out in the next round
Player of the season: Liam Norwell (if he doesn't get poached by England and can stay fit)
Breakthrough: Jacob Bethell
Team for game 1: Sibley, Yates, Mousley, Hain, Lamb, Rhodes, Burgess, Briggs, Miles, Norwell, OHD with Davies in for either Mousley or Lamb for the second game

In order to stop spam postings (which seem to have increased in number lately), I've decided to disable new registrations on the forum for the time being.

Therefore if you aren't a member of the forum but would like to be, just send a brief email to bearsfans@bev.name and I will re-enable registrations until you are signed up.

Hopefully I'll be able to find a more permanent solution at some point, but this should at least stop the spam in the meantime.

Thanks for your patience,

Has signed for the Blast. He's available for the first 12 games in the group stage, and maybe finals day

Good signing!

Have I missed news of the champion county match against the MCC, or is it not happening?

Unfortunately I think they'll make do with the bowlers that are already in the Caribbean but I reckon Norwell would do well in these conditions.
