Top order fails yet again
Needed to address this in the winter. Fingers crossed for middle order revival
Nail on the head. We have been desperate for a quality top order batsman for some years now. I really want Mousley to do well but a Marcus Harris type is what we need.

Farrell does appear to have a good reading of the game, seems to know about the players she's commentating on and I do think she is a genuine lover of county cricket.
I really like her knowledge and enthusiasm. I'd prefer her to most. The dreadful heavy-breather Clive Eakin has resurfaced on the stream. I had hoped he would have packed it in last season but it looks like we will have to endure his banality for another year.
Garton pretending to be a red ball cricketer for one game a season so he can go home for the weekend is an absolute joke.
The right appointment. Davies was never captain material. Barnard should be able to galvanise the team and has a good cricket brain.
Captain Barnard looks ahead to the new season:
Fantastic news! Best bowling coach around. He will have some great young bowlers to work with and improve.
Absolutely pathetic. It was clear both teams were not interested in playing much cricket as the season peters out. They are overworked after all.
Just getting over the disappointment of our ODC exit. The game was in our hands. Much has been said about the merits and dismerits of Captain Barnard and Non Captain Davies. This debate will run and run. From Westwood's point of view, and he said as much, he would expect the most senior batsman in the team to see us home from that position.
Putting aside my disappointment, plenty of positives to take from the tournament overall.
Simmons missing out was a blow and unfortunately we had Sylvester, who isn't good enough.
Smith, Malik, Sheikh and Taz Ali all made good contributions and will get better and better. The form of Yates remains a concern.
Let's hope we can keep our white ball season going in the T20!

I would say that the Metro Bank cup has shown that Taz has moved ahead of Lintott as a spinner, and that Kai should be classed as the best keeper on the staff.
I very much like Kai and he has potential. However, having watched him throughout the one day cup it is clear that he has a lot of work to do on his keeping - he is a bit “scruffy” and made several basic mistakes - these are not criticisms, just observations. Alex Davies is the better keeper at present, but hopefully Kai can develop as he matures.
It's a shame that once Smith does mature he will be off to play franchise cricket and we will have to find another one.
Never mind the championship, have we got an overseas top order replacement for Latham for the big T20 quarter final coming up?
Sharks won the toss and are batting. Lintott and Slim Sylvester in for Bamber and Booth.

Looks like Sussex are resting one or two players for tomorrow - Grant Flower says that the 13-man squad "sees plenty of opportunities for players yet to make an appearance in the competition this season."

No Carson, Hudson-Prentice or Haines.
Fair play to the club, in recent weeks we have been getting some proper previews and interviews. They have listened!
Excellent win against a good Durham side in their own backyard. Captain Barnard leading by example.
One more decent win needed tomorrow. Hopefully Yates and Davies can come to the party.
Typically, Ben Raine always turns up against the Bears. His form has been patchy until we rock up.
Also, typically, Davies is out when we need an innings from him. What is that now... one decent knock in seven matches?

It's often interesting to see what the opposition has to say. The Durham preview says:
"Ian Westwood’s first season as head coach at Edgbaston has contained some promising signs – Warwickshire have delivered some eye-catching Rothesay County Championship wins and qualification for the Vitality Blast quarter-finals. To lift the Metro Bank One-Day Cup would assure supporters that their side is settling again after the long period of transition since winning the 2021 County Championship – and also underline Ed Barnard’s credentials to be the next club captain."
That passage was lifted from the ECB's official Metro Bank One Day Cup preview. Penned by none other than our esteemed cricket writer, Brian Halford.
Hain not playing during August is becoming an annual conversation. I can't blame him doing it for the money but not playing much cricket in his peak years is such a shame.
Bears have been looking for a left arm seamer ever since he left. All we had to do was wait for him to come back!
A terrific win with excellent contributions from many of the younger players. I had a feeling The Taunton Twister would do something special today back in his home town. Lintott Senior is a Somerset member.
Hopefully we can show the same courage when we return next month for the T20 Quarter Final.
Excellent win to get our campaign up and running. Tough choice between Davies and Taz Ali for man of the match. Both made match winning contributions.
Room for improvement though. Yates, Malik and Sheikh can all score big but they just need to get going and find form. Lintott could do with improving his economy but he is an important player when in rhythm. Booth continues to impress.
