I have been watching for the last half hour or so and the Essex batsmen have hardly had any worries at all. Nothing has beaten the bat and we are not quick enough to trouble them bowling straight. Nice green pitch that we have got nothing out of.
As I type, Rochi has been brought on to bowl within the 1st hour which tells you everything.
Came on here as I had laid into the team over the first 3 days.
I missed day 4 as I was at Uttoxeter races but a fantastic turnaround by the boys to win.
Like most on here, I am still worried by us struggling to take wickets & in particular the role of Davies as captain.
Hopefully we will be safe but there is a lot of work to be done, especially in finding several seamers who can lead the attack.
Nothing Yates could have done with that ball.......nipped back and kept low
Davies on the other hand.........
Just looking at the table and going purely on batting & bowling points, we have the worst bowling points total in the division and are currently 4th for batting (although that will likely fall to 6th by the time the games are finished).
I am convinced that those batting points mainly came in the first 4 games though.
We should be safe on the basis that others are running out of games and that the good old British summer seems to be back to normal
Our batters have certainly used the 'remove the highest score' method for this game............

August 1993 the last time they beat us at Edgbaston? Phil Newport 7 wickets over whitsun bank holiday and Graeme Hick got Gladstone out stumped leaving them just 11 to win 4th innings
No disgrace losing to that Worcester side though, this one is cannon fodder.
I gave up hope of anything better than avoiding relegation a while back.
I can't see us winning another championship game this season, we have been thoroughly outplayed more often than not but the Kookaburra ball and the occasional bit of weather has kept us away from the drop zone so far.
We just dont have the extra pace in our attack to take 10 wickets in time. OHD has started to look his age this season unfortunately.
Our batting though is a real concern. Even on flat pitches we always seem to get outscored by the opposition.
Westwood deserves some time but it has to be said that we look no better under him this season and if he sticks with Davies as captain, it will cost him his job. I have always had concerns about Davies character, he seems to rub opponents up the wrong way and this could be a trait of his that also seeps into the our dressing room. I have no facts to bear out my hunch but I just do not think the players are behind him & Barnard would be a far better pick.
Notts look as though they will win & Leics all out for 185 which seems competitive

Yeah, this is painful against the worst team in the division
This comment aged well. Hopefully as we have 9 bowlers to choose from we will defend this ok.
The only way to comment is live imo and it was not a great start but we held our nerve and worked our way into the innings, something we haven't been doing throughout the competition.........games change as they progress and I am pleased that both openers used this game to find their best form.
Excellent innings from Davies and Latham in particular.
It proves that you can have a look early doors as long as you have a plan to progress things.
Some poor bowling from Derbys though.
The outfield looks iffy as well, several simple misfields so far
Better going now
Notts with their noses in front currently, Leics going well but 3 wickets down & Northants putting Durham to the sword...........things are going to swing though
We have to start being creative now & take risks. We have wickets in hand

The comentators have said it is a very used wicket.
THe camera work and vision mixing on the Derbyshire live stream isn't the best.
The visuals at both Derby & Leicester are particularly poor
2 nice cricket shots from Latham in that over tbf, need to move the scoreboard on now
3 off the first over
Latham has 1 run from 4 balls
I can feel a ridiculous Davies wicket coming
The players look beaten, their body language speaks volumes.
Northants are going for it but some of our bowling is very poor.
ETA: Gleason the perfect example there, surprises the batter with a short ball and then bowls another straight after that goes for 6. Where is the thought process?
Well, that was an exciting game.
Good win but I agree with other posters that we left 10-15 runs out there tonight making the game closer than it needed to be.
There was indeed something in the pitch for the bowlers.
Hose will pull this off if we dont get him soon, he has his eye in
