Poor decision to put them back in

We should have piled the misery on and seen where we were with 15 overs left of play.

All we have done is play them into form and flogged our bowlers.

Looking flat, both the pitch and the bowling.

Fully agree

Forgot to post on this game:

Good win & good to see Webster take a couple of late wickets after Barker's heroics.

Thompson & Webster are good AR's but we already have 2 in Woakes & Barnard. Woakes was poor in this game and should still make a difference over the season but everything just looks much of a muchness regarding our seamers. Webster is a batting AR.......has he & Thompson improved our attack? I would say not. Bamber takes wickets with the new ball but then tapers off, Booth is still quite raw and erratic

We needed to recruit either a proper quickie or a top end spinner to give us something different, as it is we are no better off than last season with players like Thompson taking the place of our own home grown kids.

Completely comfortable for an average Sussex full of journeymen.

Another mid table (at best) finish for us this season.

Sorry but this is not good enough from us.

One of our big problems over the last couple of seasons has been taking the last 6 or 7 wickets in the 2nd innings and it has not been resolved.

I thought we were a little fortunate to bowl them out for just over 200 in the first innings, several of those wickets were given away.

I am not sure what our plans are but bowling short, wide, down leg side or too full will not make those plans work. We certainly cant put any kind of pressure on the batsmen with a few maidens in the way that Sussex did to us.

Woakes has bowled poorly all game, Webster doesn't seem to add anything and after a reasonable spell Thompson has now reverted to bowling bouncers down the leg side.

We have all these seam options but nothing different by the looks of it.

Thompson has just bowled Hughes (a very lucky played on), hopefully this will pep them up but it isnt too good this bowling.

Strange, entertaining match. Yates, Barnard & Smith have pulled the innings around as Smith & Woakes did 1st up.

We are on top but another good spell of bowling tomorrow morning could change that quickly.

Not long started watching.

Not seen too much of Thompson & Gilchrist but they have bowled some half trackers in the last 10/15 minutes.

Hopefully we can get this pair out because we have been good at allowing teams right back into matches over the last 4/5 years.

We just dont have enough threat.

Conditions were perfect today to take some wickets early doors but we bowled too many gift balls and not enough balls forcing Essex to play at. Gilchrist & Booth do offer a bit of extra pace but not enough to make the difference against decent batters regularly.

I would like to see where the scorecard would be if we were put in with those conditions (actually I would not like to see it). Bamber does take wickets but also costs runs, that one over got Essex going with him serving up 4's every ball. Barnard should be someone we go to to give the quicks a rest & to see if he can break a partnership.

There is no lack of effort but we are not going to start threatening the top spots until we have more threat to our attack.

Young may as well have a go now and see if we can knock off this deficit

Didn't pick up on any dissent? Could be wrong. I mean either way it was clearly an absolute seed, right?

He wasn't happy. Yes it was a beaut of a ball but that doesn't mean he actually hit it. I might be wrong but shaking your head all the way off the pitch is not usually because the ball was that good that you think you have been unlucky.

What a ball
Barnard didn't seem to think so, unless I have misread his body language.

He was shaking his head all the way off the field and did not make any attempt to leave the pitch.

Getting a positive decision from an umpire at the Oval is like getting a penalty at Old Trafford 20 years ago, every questionable decision seems to go their way.

Really really poor decision to bowl Barnard.

Can’t believe he was chosen after his previous overs, lost us the match.

Yet another season of disappointment

Barnard has bowled poorly tonight, this was the wrong choice last over.

What was Davies thinking having seen the whole game pan out.

Somerset supporters are the worst I have ever seen. You can tell that the banter to our players is not funny due to the reaction of them when taking a wicket.

For some reason, I thought they would be a knowledgeable & supportive bunch but they just seem one eyed, rude & entitled.

Back to the game and imo we were 15-20 runs too short.

Are Lancashire trying to lose? No idea why they’re persisting with Shetty, who has gone for over 7 an over all innings.

Sussex played in the spirit of the game and played to win, Lancs really are the opposite.

They have just taken the 7th wicket and look as though they have all lost £100

Henry Brookes to see Middlesex home?

Lancs are bowling a youngster called Shetty.......they have kept him on for the full 10 overs despite him going all around the park.

Thanks for that my least favourite opponent!!

A real a shame how this is ending up considering how good all of the youngsters have been at various points & the fact that 5 wins is usually enough to qualify.

Davies just had to see things home but his wicket was the catalyst to a collapse. Lintott also being a senior player just needed to bed in and take it easy but went for boundaries when we were under pressure.

Lancs are indeed crap.

Good display by Taz Ali again and yes, Sylvester was very tidy & unlucky with one LBW shout that looked pretty plum.

A couple of those googly's were very nice.

I am still concerned that we seem to have to lose a bunch of wickets quickly but a good win none the less.

At least we have mixed things up today with our collapse.

One spinner on the same pitch that we took 7 wickets with spin just the other day.

Hopefully we post a good score & Yates can back up Taz Ali
