I think the team has an unbalanced look about it with Malik batting at 7, I would like to see Kai Smith back in at 7 and given another chance with the gloves on Friday. I also have a feeling that Rushworth will be in instead of Simmons. Quite why Simmons only bowled 9 overs out of 143.2 in the match only Davies can answer, but if he doesn't have faith in the youngster then why play him in the first place?
I have nothing against Davies, but i honestly believe Latham would be a much better choice as captain.
True I think Davies and Yates need some competition and giving the captaincy to Latham would ensure that Davies is selected purely on form only.
I'd rather Davies was wicketkeeper for now and coming in at 6 or 7.
As mentioned by others, it was the final session of the first day that really gave them the advantage
Unless Woakes is fit I'd go with the same side. Hain needs to start converting his starts

At least Webster looked plumb - looking a bit difficult now.
Really? I thought it was well over
That was too high again

That looked a bit high to give out for me. Hain looked as though he was going to get a decent score today.
Yeah very dubious..

Based on his first couple of shots, it looks like Davies is trying to get them before lunch.
Could be close to over by lunch time
3rd day is always the best for batting !
Latham ton coming..optimistic 🤣🤣

Having read so much about it, on here and elsewhere, I had to take a look at the Davies dismissal. And I agree that, in the circumstances of the game, it was truly dreadful.
Maybe the triple burden of captaincy, keeping wicket and opening the batting is just a step too far for the multi-talented Mr. Davies.
If he's to captain and keep, I wonder if it would be worth him coming in at 6 or 7. Even if he doesn't keep I have a feeling he's better down the order

I think we haven't had much luck - lost the toss, then clear and sunny for Hampshire to bat most of yesterday. We've batted mostly in gloomy conditions. Now at 194 all out the weather has gone sunny just in time for Hampshire to start their second innings shortly!
Hmm I think a lot of it was to do with poor application...glorious sunshine when Davies played his typical rubbish hundred style shot
After Stokes, Barnard is probably the best Batting all-rounder now in the country

Whilst I don't disagree too much, I wonder if "cleaning up a tail" is less common than it used to be. Gone are the days when an Eric Hollies (or, for that matter, a Mark Robinson) was a walking wicket. Most tail-enders these days have at least some pretensions to batting skill; and if the ball is old and the pitch favourable to batting, wickets are not easy to come by.
We can only hope that applies to us today !
Awful session..needed to get stuck in
150 all out with a big deficit looming

My patience has run out with our captain now, every innings the same
Yep had enough chances.. brainless cricket when you need a captain to show the rest how to play
No one should be playing that shot..let alone the captain! That was awful and it's given them the impetus
Game is set up very nicely.
Hopefully survive this evening without losing a wicket and a good day for batting tomorrow

Went on the square at lunch time and ground staff were telling me how dry the wicket was. Said something like 200k litres of water put on it but the drainage is so good it just takes it away.
Said they tried to prepare this wicket differently to make it more lively and left it until late.
A good effort by our bowlers but I guess spin more and more vital as game goes on.
Yeah tbf there does seem some carry for the taller bowlers. Like to see bit of pace with Simmons shortly
Another flat slow pitch it seems...
Hoping the pitch offers a lot more than the previous game
Ideally there's something in the pitch for the spinners and Ali can play.
Out of the squad I'd probably have Smith and Rushworth missing out. I can imagine the bowlers will be feeling it still so an extra bowler will help.
Please let the pitch for Friday offer something
Great effort from the bowlers. Hopefully can put their feet up this afternoon
