Pretty decent result all considered and a pretty nice consolidation after those two early wickets lost.
Not unhappy, does feel like a little bit of a missed opportunity but still firmly in the mix going into that final block of games.
Table is crying out for someone to go on a bit of a run and I’d argue we’re as capable as any.
Hand injury for Ogborne, get a spinner in!
Yeah Malik tends to be a slightly more fluent starter too and feels more conducive to a racey start if we are to go after this chase.
Devil’s advocate but him having kept in pretty hot weather for 150 overs might have a role in it.
On Suthar, the angles kind of work against him becuase of how perpendicular and vertical his release point is - Leach releasing from a slightly wider angle gets a ball turning from middle to off stump whereas Suthar produces more prodigious but unthreatening turn because it lands fairly straight on from his release, meaning he gets a lot of play and misses but doesn't ever look like getting an edge to slip to me. He'd have to pitch on or even maybe just outside leg to threaten the stumps it feels like. The batter can be confident that bowled and lbw aren't in play if he pitches it on and he doesn't look like he has an arm ball a la Danny Briggs (or at least a more threatening one, probably because of release point?)
Weirdly, it feels like he'd be more threatening to a left hander.
Strange we didn't give Beau a go with the harder ball after his first innings haul.
Just gone a bit quiet in that period before the new ball there, probably a good time for the tea break. Could really do with a quick bang bang just to keep this chase comfortable.
Really do enjoy watching Manav Suthar. Always something happening when he's involved.
Looks like he's limping now, sub another seamer on!
Two balls after the resumption for Ogborne. Warned again for running on the pitch.
In his post-day interview last night, Beau confirmed this is the last county championship match of his current stint.
Two balls from Ogborne and he's getting a talking to from the umpire for running on the pitch. Laughable.
Craig Overton one of the most dislikable characters on the circuit. Not happening on the pitch so he's chirping Mousley.
Yeah, I'm not having that. Bowling a high intensity six over spell last night and he's subbed out now? Right arm bowler for left arm to create footholes?
The first instance of the sub rule in one of our games and it already feels vastly unfair.
With this signing looking to have been relatively successful and not knowing his availability going forward, the thought has occurred whether we may try and extend into the One Day Cup a la Krunal Pandya a few years back? We already look very strong in that comp with Hain not picked up in The Hundred.
Terrific day. Really important first session tomorrow to not allow them back into the game.
The signing of Suthar suggests we're expecting some turn surely cause I'm not sure the punt is exactly worth the exclusion of Booth if we're playing on a green top?
Barnard obviously gives overs but feels like that side misses an out and out new ball option if it's to be Gilchrist.
Slightly concerned by the look of how our bowling attack will assemble for this one. From the squad released there's no spare batter so I expect Davies will stay at the top.
Davies Yates Mousley Hain Webster Barnard Malik Suthar Thompson Bamber Gilchrist will probably be the side.
Great time to play Somerset who are in the midst of an injury crisis and will now be without James Rew this week.
Cracking fightback and result. One thing this team is never short of is fight.
