Incredible win and I still come away thinking the biggest gain there is the two days rest in this congested schedule.

Pretty good time to have probably our best day of the season, certainly our best day away. Bamber is just an exceptional asset. Constantly challenging both right and left handers, but with an almost undepletable stamina, too. Certainly the type of bowler you build an attack around.

Tough to lose Young relatively late on, but hopefully these two can stay set and push us towards those batting points in the morning.

Looks a tough deck, for sure, even that Mir Hamza dismissal spun quite a bit. Going to be quite a tough session to navigate, particularly against Van der Gugten.

On the topic of Woakes’ fitness and the earlier suggestion in another thread that the injury substitution rule offers a layer of protection for his selection, we are now the only remaining team who hasn’t used the rule - or indeed any form of replacement - this season!

Imagine the only question will be whether Woakes is fit to play. Interesting that Booth is in the squad. This might suggest that we’re anticipating a seamer over Suthar-friendly conditions.

Just looking at remaining fixtures for the three main contenders:

Somerset (167): Leicestershire (A, currently 9th), Yorkshire (A, currently 8th), Surrey (H, currently 6th)
Nottinghamshire (163): Hampshire (H, currently 10th), Sussex (A, currently 4th), Yorkshire (H, currently 8th)
Warwickshire (162): Glamorgan (A, currently 5th), Essex (A, currently 7th), Leicestershire (H, currently 9th)

Somerset probably fairly the overwhelming favourites but Grace Road can be a bit of a minefield pitchwise. They've been preparing result wickets which could represent a challenge. Notts travel to Hampshire this week, Ben Brown admitted that Hants have been playing their worst cricket at home, so we can hope for some resistance perhaps. Strong chance that Leicestershire will be relegated by the time we play them on the final week, so hoping we accrue enough points across the next two to remain in strong contention. Sussex and Yorkshire is a tough final two for Notts I reckon.

A big motivation towards Suthar's signing for this run in will have been Chelmsford. Going to be a strong test on what'll likely be a spin favouring pitch.

Amid this congested and rushed bunch of fixtures, pretty good we managed a 3 day (two and a half day, really) win. Day off and relatively low workload for the bowlers.

Profting, dare I say, from the use of the injury substitution rule which we're still yet to see Warwickshire need this season! In all fairness, picking Brett Hutton in September is screaming out for a muscle injury. If I were more sceptical, I'd suggest he were picked knowing there was an element of protection should he break down!

Pretty perfect win, that. Not allowing weather to be a factor with a ruthless bowling performance against a sorry, sorry batting lineup. Come on Leicestershire!

I made the point after the Somerset away match that Suthar’s release point means he gets quite a few dangerous looking plays and misses that aren’t that threatening from a wicket taking perspective. Already in the first over one has pitched middle but span far enough outside off stump that it beat the batter but doesn’t really threaten dismissal.

All while Somerset make inroads into their match too…
