Excellent performances from players who will have a significant role in the ODC. I’d consider us among the favourites with Sam Hain currently looking to be available. When Vansh Jani gets going he’s so destructive, it’ll be interesting to see how he’s used this year after playing as a finisher last season.
Yates Barnard Shaikh Hain Davies Jani Smith Lintott Bamber Ali Hannon-Dalby? Feels rough to leave Shaikh out as this is the competition in which he needs exposure to help justify his position but do feel he’s the more likely drop for another bowler.
Obviously, Lintott is with Kent now and Barnard is in the Hundread, but I agree, that's the basis of a decent 50 over team. If Davies is in, it will principally be as a Keeper, though they might decide to go with another bowler - perhaps Simmons. In place of Barnard & Lintott, I expect to see Garton (only as a batsman) & Gilchrist (though Barker would be there, IF he's fit), Yates & Vansh will be backup spinners.
There is one more 2nds 50 over Friendly before the start of the MBC - against Notts (away) on Thursday; the make up of that team (and the performances in the match), could be significant in selection for the MBC, at least to begin with. I really hope Keith B will be fit for a large part of it.
Lintott was only on loan for the T20s IIRC and posted a farewell after the group stage finished. To be fair I had completely missed Barnard getting a hundred gig!
with runs (again!) for Arjun Nahal, I’m interested to see if he may get a run out or two this campaign. He and Omaris Khan seem to have impressed enough to feature regularly in these games. Some talk of Charlie Taylor featuring if fit too.

Interesting innings. Pace off seems to be really effective and we’ve found it tough to keep momentum going when it’s built. Suspect Thompson will have a big role to play in defending this.
Handy NRR boost tonight might I add.
It’s a shame we took just too long to click because now that we have we look capable of beating anyone. Thompson and Gleeson’s yorker bowling has been exemplary.
If we squeeze through as a best third place somehow, we’ll be in a good place to hurt any team.
Pretty decent result all considered and a pretty nice consolidation after those two early wickets lost.
Not unhappy, does feel like a little bit of a missed opportunity but still firmly in the mix going into that final block of games.
Table is crying out for someone to go on a bit of a run and I’d argue we’re as capable as any.
Hand injury for Ogborne, get a spinner in!
Yeah Malik tends to be a slightly more fluent starter too and feels more conducive to a racey start if we are to go after this chase.
Devil’s advocate but him having kept in pretty hot weather for 150 overs might have a role in it.
On Suthar, the angles kind of work against him becuase of how perpendicular and vertical his release point is - Leach releasing from a slightly wider angle gets a ball turning from middle to off stump whereas Suthar produces more prodigious but unthreatening turn because it lands fairly straight on from his release, meaning he gets a lot of play and misses but doesn't ever look like getting an edge to slip to me. He'd have to pitch on or even maybe just outside leg to threaten the stumps it feels like. The batter can be confident that bowled and lbw aren't in play if he pitches it on and he doesn't look like he has an arm ball a la Danny Briggs (or at least a more threatening one, probably because of release point?)
Weirdly, it feels like he'd be more threatening to a left hander.
Strange we didn't give Beau a go with the harder ball after his first innings haul.
Just gone a bit quiet in that period before the new ball there, probably a good time for the tea break. Could really do with a quick bang bang just to keep this chase comfortable.
Really do enjoy watching Manav Suthar. Always something happening when he's involved.
Looks like he's limping now, sub another seamer on!
Two balls after the resumption for Ogborne. Warned again for running on the pitch.
In his post-day interview last night, Beau confirmed this is the last county championship match of his current stint.
Two balls from Ogborne and he's getting a talking to from the umpire for running on the pitch. Laughable.
Craig Overton one of the most dislikable characters on the circuit. Not happening on the pitch so he's chirping Mousley.
Yeah, I'm not having that. Bowling a high intensity six over spell last night and he's subbed out now? Right arm bowler for left arm to create footholes?
The first instance of the sub rule in one of our games and it already feels vastly unfair.
