If we were to get a young player from Glous, I'd be looking at getting one of Tommy Boorman, a 19 year old batter/off spinner with captaincy experience, Archie Bailey, a 19 year fast bowler or Armand Rao, also 19 ex Somerset a seam bowling all rounder with captancy experience.
It's a useful indicator of character and cricketing IQ in many cases. Both the examples I quoted have had extensive captaincy experience though age group cricket, and in the case of Tommy Boorman county 2nd team level.
Having seen all 3 of the players named play from the middle I'm sure they have the potential to have good cricketing careers.

If, as we should, be using the 50 overs competition as a development exersize, the keeping gloves should be given to Kai Smith for the entire competition. His development so he can become the everyday first choice keeper is essential.
Effectively we lose just two everyday players, as Woakes, Mousley and Bethell have been missing for England calls & Garton and Gleason are absent, for injury or other reasons, significantly more than they are available.
Apart from Barnard that group of batters is concerning, and doesn't suggest consistant scoring. It might be an idea to see if it was possible to get a batsman on loan if their own county are not planning to use them.
Regardless of qualifying for the quarter finals, or not, there are a number of serious underlying problems with the squad construction, game management, Captaincy and overseas player recruitment that need to be addressed over the winter.
Sadly, Ian Westwood was promoted too late in the off season to make major changes to all of those areas, so this is effectively another year of the "Robinson" plan. He should be given at least one more year to put his ideas and changes into place. Ideally he is given a multi year contract so he can concentrate on the medium to longer term development of the squad, not just going for short term results.
Any, English, players we sign should be on contracts where they are available for the full season and all forms of crifcket, with Warwickshire being their number one priority, except for England call ups. a player on a white ball only contract who places Warwickshire 3rd behind clashing franchise leagues is not comitted to the club and is disruptive to the squad and changing room.
Ideally, overseas players should be full seaso and all forms if possible, what is not acceptable is players showing up concealing an injury so they are unable to play and treat the club as a highly paid holiday, or players who sign, then avoid honouring the contract for feeble reasons. Genuine injurys and National team selection for gams is understandable, but failing to show up for a glorified net session is not acceptable.
After two seasons of abysmally poor leadership and mediocre results, it it tine for a new captain, who has a totally different style and plays intelligently for the team.
In terms of game management, more use needs to be made of the infoprmation on the opponents available from the analysts and coaches. There is no excuse now all county games are available online from the ECB servers, not to go into a game with a plan for each opponent, team and individual, with the bat and ball. The new captain also has to be open to changing the game plan to suit the circumstances of the game.
The captaincy, was abysmal yesterday, it is never good with Davies, but yesterday, not only did he do nothing to support the bowlers, who were struggling, but he dis nothing to encourage the team, to change the pace of the game, which would allow us to dictate the pace of the game, not the batting side, and he then plays, yet again, an abysmal & totally inappropriate shot to get out.
A change of captain is needed, ideally now. It is totally wrong to allow someone to continue playing so badly without consequences.
New leadership ideas, and methods, are needed, from someone who plays for the team, and should be one of the first names selected for every game, and ideally is available all season, not going off to play in the "unhealthy snack foods" slog competition. I'd appoint Ed barnard as captain, with Sam Hain & OHD as joint VC's. Going forwards, recruitment should be concentrated on players who are available and con contribute in all forms of the game and Overseas players should, ideally, be full season signings. I'd be happy for Ronchi' Lathem and Webster to return. I would not be happy about any players who have just used the club as a paid holiday returning.
Yet again, a pathetically stupid irresponsible shot from Davies.
when the captain has iresponsible dismissals all the time, how cen he expect the others to play sensibly?
Hain and Barnard must be fed up of having to resucue the innings every game.
Bethell for Yates is the obvious change, and makes the team stronger. Latham is an experienced, high quality international player, it would be a mistake to omit him.
Davies showing all of his leadership skills by getting out to a poor shot, again!
When you have an opener that fails consistantly, it has a negative effect on the rest of the team.
The team will not be successful until we have a sensible and successful opening partnership in all forms of the game.
Just confirmed he has signed an extention till the end of 2027.
Let us hope he is given a fair opportunity to develop all aspects of his game.
Very poor start, 64-3, with both Malik and Sheikh failing to very poor shots. Wylie dismissal not yet online.
If you are using an agressive attacking player as one of the openers, it is essential that that player does not, repeatedly, get out playing stupid and inappropriate shots for the game situation. If he does, as seems to be the case, he should be replaced.
In any workplace, if a senior employee is allowed to consistantly under perform, it has a demorallising effect on the rest of the workforce. This goes a long way to explaining why key players have chosen to move elsewhere &/or retire from the professional game.
Unless there are unpublished fitness issues, the selection is illogical at times and shows a lack of clear planning, and understanding of the opponents.
Not sure that including a wrist spinner, with poor control, is sensible on a day when the outfield, and ball, will be damp.

Same squad as Friday
Based on recent form, if Lintott and Hassan Ali play, we need to hope the remaining 3 bowlers go for under 30 each, as Lintott & ali are conceding around 100 runs from their 8 overs.
Also, Yates was dropped from the side after the first game, unless there are many injuries to the other batsmen, there is no viable reason to restore him to the side.
I think Somerset have one of, if not, the largest program for 2nd team and U18 cricket, so they want opportunities for their players and exposure for their sponsors.
You could say that about the people assessing some of our overseas signings, who arrived with an injury, failed to disclose it and had a multi week fully paid holiday at the clubs expense.
